 Mandir and Ajmer Sharif

Gangtok, July 1, 2010:
The Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Pawan Chamling today offered his prayer at the Brahma Mandir as part of the Pushkar Raj Tirtha, located at a distance of 13 kms from Ajmer. Said to be the only Brahma Mandir to be built in the world, the Mandir and its vicinity closeted by the holy Pushkar lake is also popularly known and widely revered as a Tapa Bhumi.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister and his team also visited the Ajmer Sharif in the afternoon. As the founding saint, Khwajauddin Chisti conceptualized the construction of the Ajmer Sharif in the 12th century. Mughal Emperors including Sultan Iltutmish, Shah Jahan and Akbar subsequently expanded the facilities to add different facets including the tomb. The main gate to the tomb was built by the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1911. Mughal Emperor Akbar was said to have visited the Ajmer Sharif for fourteen times from Agra on foot, first when he was blessed with the holy boon in the birth of his first son and later when he won the battle of Chittore and so on.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister and his team offered prayer for peace and progress of the State and the Sikkimese people. He also made an offering of chaddar (shawl), which forms part of traditional offerings made by the visiting devotees.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling was accompanied by Smt. Tika Maya Chamling, Shri RS Basnet, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Principal Resident Commissioner, Sikkim House.
