Pune, February 4, 2011: The MIT group of Institutions,
Pune, India has conferred the honour of Bharat Asmita Jeevan
Gaurav Puraskar 2012, Special Award for Life Time Achievement on
Shri Pawan Chamling Chief Minister of Sikkim. At a well attended
function Shri Chamling was handed over the cash award, a plaque,
a citation, and shawl, by Dr R A Mashelkar Padma Bhushan, and
Chairman of the Bharat Asmita National Awards Committee. The
other imminent recipients of awards in their respective fields
were Shri Nana Patekar, actor/ director, Shri Siddartha Basu,
Mass media, Prof S Parasuraman, Director, Tata Institute of
Social Sciences, Prof Samir K Brahmachari Director General CSIR
and Shri Jayant Chaudhary MP Lok Sabha.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister apprised the
gathering about the various development such as Catch, Green
Mission, Kutcha house free mission of the State. While
addressing the student community of MIT institute he urged the
younger generation to inculcate the values of hard work,
sincerity, and responsibilities and contribute towards nation

Started in 2005, the Bharat Asmita National Award is a
prestigious award given to prominent luminaries in various
fields such as education, social and political fields, science
and technology etc. In the past some prominent recipients of
these awards were Shri T N Seshan, former Chief Election
Commissioner, Shri Jyotiraditya Sindhia, Shri Rajdeep Sardesai,
Mallika Sarabai and Bharka Dutt of NDTV.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by his wife Mrs Tika Maya
Chamling, Mr O.T. Lepcha MP Rajya Sabha, Principal Secretary to
HCM and Secretary IPR, Shri KS Topgay.
