Chief
Minister, Shri Pawan Chamling attends Tendong Lho Rum Faat- says
all people safe and are prospering in Sikkim

Rinchenpong, August 8, 2011: Citing example of
existential dilemma and identity crisis being faced by various
tribes the world over including the Red Indians in the US, Ionu,
pigmy in Japan, Routey and Kusundas in Nepal and the tribal
population of Andaman Nicobar Island, the Chief Minister Shri
Pawan Chamling congratulated the Lepcha community in Sikkim for
their progress and prosperity. He further said, that Sikkim
witnessed Cultural Revolution after 1985 much like in Russia in
the past. However, in Sikkim it was spearheaded by the State
Government itself by promoting the overall interest of all the
tribes living in Sikkim including the Lepchas. The Chief
Minister, Shri Pawan Chamling was addressing large gathering of
Lepchas coming from all parts of Sikkim, neighbouring district
of Darjeeling and Nepal and Bhutan including large number of
local gathering on the occasion of Tendong Lho Rum Faat, an
indigenous primitive Lepcha festival in Sikkim.
Every single individual in the
State should be conscious of his/her right and responsibility.
We must, as the democratic citizens of this great Nation, check
our tendency to seek our rights alone and run away from
shouldering our responsibility, Shri Chamling exhorted. Saying
education as the only effective weapon for progress, the Chief
Minister called upon Lepcha community to give maximum emphasis
on educating themselves and their children. Duly accepting the
world situation and the present day reality, the Chief Minister
also asked them to compete regionally, nationally and
internationally in every field.
Sikkim is disparity-free State
and ours is probably the only State which is exemplary in the
whole country. The Chief Minister also informed the gathering
that the issue of recognition of Lepchas as the Most Primitive
Tribe in India as being forwarded by the State Government is
awaited from the Central Government.
