Sikkim Democratic Front Government enters 18th years of continuous service
“Sincerity is everything”, says Shri Pawan Chamling and calls for collective responsibility to change many dreams into reality


Gangtok, December 12, 2011 Shri Pawan Chamling heading the Sikkim Democratic Front Government took oath of office as Chief Minister on December 12, 1994. And it has been a long and eventful journey for the Sikkim Democratic Front government which fulfilled many of the outstanding demands of the Sikkimese people, both at the State and national level. Addressing the Government Formation Day here at Chintan Bhawan, the Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction, “We are now entering into the 18th year of governance. This day is special for me and I am satisfied with the level of achievements we made over the years. As a leader to run State with the blessings and faith of the people, I am very happy and feeling truly fulfilled. And history will testify to the works that we accomplished in Sikkim as a golden era. All these have been possible due to our sacrifice, hard work and continuous struggle in the interest of the people of Sikkim”, the Chief Minister expressed.
Recalling his initial terms as Chief Minister in early 1990s, Shri Pawan Chamling said that the State Government has been giving top most priority to the village development duly allocating 70 percent of annual state allocation for rural development. Talking about the financial health of the State in 1994, the Chief Minister said that the State Government was very hard pressed and had to resort to bank loan for carrying out day-to-day activities of the State. Highlighting that ‘Sincerity is everything’ Shri Chamling said that he is for the poor and the downtrodden and he actually love them. He said he equally love Sikkim and the Sikkimese people and further cautioned that we should be careful about people who do not respect and love people and the State.
Calling upon Government officials to deliver service to people, Shri Pawan Chamling said that in spite of completion of decentralization process, we have to still vigorously deliver service to people. He further said that the State Government has posted young officers to every village for the welfare of the people and called upon them to deliver. Stressing upon work ethic and decency in public life, the Chief Minister said that all officials including Secretaries should shoulder greater responsibilities to make all our administrative exercise complementary to the welfare of the people.
While informing the gathering about the upcoming Panchayat election due in October, the Chief Minister said that the State Government is considering to pre-pone the same during April-May, 2012. The idea is to finish all processes before the onset of monsoon and also to avoid inconvenience to school children sitting for their examination.
Highlighting another development aspect, the Chief Minister said that the Government has created range of pilgrimage centres across the State. Besides creating additional employment avenues, this will also create new identity for Sikkim. He further shared that he has the big dream to make Skywalk atop Bhaleydhunga, which will become a premiere tourist spot in the entire country as another wonder in the world. He further informed about some other innovative projects like the Ramayan Busty. Shri Pawan Chamling also shared that he surprised many of the people in Sikkim when he promoted the concept of Eco-tourism, village tourism and capacity building. Now in many areas like, Sikkim is the model state and as an example in the entire State.
Before concluding his address, the Chief Minister called upon everyone to work seriously to fully overcome the trauma of earthquake and all the relief and rehabilitation work.
