Winter Session Assembly passes Sikkim Online Gaming (regulation) Amendment Bill

Gangtok, December 21, 2011: The one-day winter session of the Sikkim legislative Assembly was convened and the Sikkim Online Gaming (regulation) Amendment Bill, tabled by the Chief Minister (also the Finance Minister) was passed unanimously by the House.
In his address, the Chief Minister referred to the recent earthquake which rocked the State leading to loss of lives and damages to public properties pushing the State by over five years. He, however, contented that the rebuilding process has begun in right earnest with the State Government reaching out to all the affected families and providing all round support to people. While highlighting that earthquake is not a new phenomenon in Sikkim which falls in seismic zone V, the Chief Minister also informed the august body about occurrence of earthquake of variant scales in Sikkim at different point of time from 1934 onwards. The Chief Minister also informed the House that the State Government has requested the Central Government to establish a full-fledged Disaster Management cell to deal with such unforeseen calamity covering the State of Sikkim and all the hill region of North and North East region.
The Chief Minister also thanked the Central Government, the Prime Minister, Home Minister, MP Rahul Gandhi and host of other organization including the Army and the Paramilitary forces and many individuals for the humanitarian works and the donation credited to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
